Three Long Island students are among the 40 finalists in the Regeneron Science Talent Search and will travel to Washington, D.C. in March to present their projects in a public exhibit and compete for the top award of $250,000.

The finalists are Archana Verma and Nathaniel Lee, both from Jericho High School, and Emily Peterson from Smithtown East High School.  Archana's research studied molecules similar to dye-sensitized solar cells with the goal of increasing their efficiency in home use.  Nathaniel discovered a new application for low cost ceramic composites which are used in more cost efficient mid-infrared lasers.  Emily's work focused on a protein that can be used to treat skin wounds including burns and cancers.

Jericho also carries the distinction of being one of only five schools nationwide to have multiple finalists.
